Breathing life into an historic landmark
Our third project in East Hartford centers on the restoration and adaptive reuse of a prominent early-20th-century building at 860 Main Street, located within the Central Avenue–Center Cemetery Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built in 1913, the former Church Corners Inn has served the community over the years as a hotel, restaurant, and later a boarding house with a bar and dining room.
CWA is providing comprehensive architectural services for the building’s transformation into 24 residential apartments with ground-floor retail, breathing new life into this historic landmark while preserving its distinctive character.
This project represents an exceptional opportunity for a textbook historic preservation effort. The early-20th-century building is a standout example of an urban residential block, with a well-proportioned, street-facing façade that remains remarkably intact and in excellent overall condition.
Our design will be reviewed by SHPO and will be eligible for Historic Tax Credits.
