Christopher Williams, AIA
Founder and Principal
Founding Christopher Williams Architects in 1986, Chris brings nearly four decades of experience and a deep understanding of how buildings work—from bold conceptual frameworks to the finest construction details. Known for his thoughtful, hands-on approach, he places his clients’ interests at the forefront while ensuring each project’s design integrity and the comfort and well-being of its users. His ability to resolve complex challenges with clarity and grace has become a hallmark of his work.
Many of Chris’s projects involve buildings of historic and cultural significance. As a credentialed architect with the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) and the Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), he has led numerous preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse projects across Connecticut. His work balances respect for historic fabric with innovative, forward-looking design.
Chris has built enduring relationships with many of Connecticut’s leading institutions, including Yale University, Elm City Communities, the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system, and the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services. His portfolio encompasses master plans, the relocation of historic structures, restoration of historic gates and façades, affordable and senior housing, and the renovation of modernist landmarks by renowned midcentury architects.
Before founding CWA, Chris was a designer and project architect with César Pelli & Associates (now Pelli Clarke & Partners), contributing to major commissions such as the World Financial Center and its plaza in New York City and the Pin Oak Office Complex in Houston, Texas.
For over three decades, he also owned and operated a construction company specializing in design–build delivery of commercial projects throughout Connecticut and New York—an experience that continues to inform CWA’s reputation for practical innovation and technical excellence.
